OUR IMPACT report

NBCU & CMG

People often ask me about my achievements and accomplishments and I always refer back to the accomplishments of our young Creatives instead, because they are the real focus. Jacqueline Brown landed a job at The Karamo Show through her participation in NBCU’s Creative Connections.

The creative economy needs to offer more access and training to cultivate the next generation of storytellers. Thank you Karamo Brown. Hilary Smith. Jessica Clancy, and Kristen Johnson for providing opportunities where our young people can turn their passion into their profession. Way to go Jackie!

What we do.

We provide resources and educate young people that want to learn Cinematography. We engage through a creative curriculum and prepare them for a technical career in Film, Television, and Digital Content Creation.

We strive to change the cultural narrative by altering the way we do business behind the lens, all while creating opportunities for future Filmmakers and Directors from otherwise under represented communities.

the facts.

Efforts for diversity remain stagnant when it comes to directors, writers, filmmakers, and top studio executives. In 2011, people of color made up 12.2% of directors of theatrical films. While that percentage has spiked in the ensuing decade — to 17.8% in 2013, and 19.3% in 2018 — the overall trend line has remained flat. In 2019, just 14.4% of directors of theatrical films were people of color. Drilling down further into the demographics, among directors of color, black filmmakers had the highest percentage of overall feature directors in 2018 (10.7%) and 2019 (5.5%). Only 4.3% of directors in 2018 and 3.4% in 2019 were Asian, and only 0.7% in 2018 and 2.1% in 2019 were Latina. In both years, zero feature films measured by the study were directed by indigenous people. We need to fundamentally alter the way we do business behind the lens.

At Creative Media Group, we partner with some of the biggest brands in the world to create work that uses undiscovered, diverse, and innovative talent.
